Deja vu: Dobelle put on leave by Westfield State trustees

There’s lots of good reading for those who aren’t surprised to see former UH President Evan Dobelle’s latest blow-up.

Old Evan was suspended this week and placed on administrative leave from his latest incarnation as the free-wheeling and apparently free-spending president of Westfield State University in Massachusetts.

No wonder that Dobelle’s own website, EvenDobelle.com, stopped posting links to news stories about him earlier this year.

If you don’t recall the many criticisms of Dobelle’s performance in Hawaii, you can start by just searching for “Evan Dobelle” here at iLind.net using the “search” function in the right sidebar.

My opinion is that he is running the same scam he did here. Fight his firing vigorously to force the university to buy him out and walk away with a fist full of cash. In order to get him to resign from UH he got what, $3.8 mil plus lawyers fees. He will probably try the same thing there. If I were them I would cancel the credit card and the expense accounts then tell him that any trips or expenses over $100 would have to be preapproved by the trustees. Then let his contract run out with no money to spend.

That’s a good idea, except that he probably has a 10 year contract at more than a million dollars a year!

I think UH came out ahead on its settlement with him, big as it was!

As I have said before, in life I never met anyone with greater Delusions of Grandeur.

Hilo, considered a backwater by some on Oahu, dismissed Evan after a single breakfast talk as a most dubious critter — and correctly in my view.

I dunno how regents could have chosen him and then Greenwood (not to mention Apple thereafter). What awful decision making,

Combined, they placed the whole UH system back by two decades, at least.

How much money is enough for these people? If I scored a cashout of a couple million dollars, I’m sure I could plan well enough to retire immediately and simply enjoy life. It seems these are truly greedy people who can never have enough. What a crappy legacy these people are leaving. I am just glad he is no longer Hawaii’s problem.

Thank you for the links. I sincerely wonder how individuals like Mr. Dobelle are physically, mentally and emotionally able to engage in these patterns of behavior, much less continue them. In the realm of education, no less.

Now, I never met the man, but back before the bloom was off the rose here, I wondered at people’s credulity.
