Katie McMillan, who spent several months as an organizer for the Bernie Sanders campaign in Hawaii prior to the Democratic Party caucuses, is joining the staff of Rep. Tulsi Gabbard as Maui constituent services representative, according to the Congressional tracking service, Legistorm.com.
According to her LinkedIn profile, McMillan founded her own public relations company on Maui, Katie McMillan Communications, in 2010.
Services include: public relations, marketing, copywriting, editing, social media training, and event production. Working primarily with small to mid-size organizations, former clients include The Aging with Aloha Coalition, Hawai’i Life Real Estate Brokers, Marshall Design Studio, The Arts Education for Children Group, the University of Hawai’i, The Sustainable Living Institute of Maui, and many more.
She also describes herself as founder and executive director of TEDxMaui.
I turned, what started out as just an idea, into Maui’s largest education conference. Now, with hundreds of volunteers, paid staff, and generous donors, we have been able to produce three extremely successful events and inspire millions of people.
McMillan apparently replaces Karey Oura Kapoi, who had served in the part-time position since January 2013.

Bernie is not actually a Democrat and I suspect Tulsi isn’t either. They do what is convenient for them.
Thankfully Bernie and Tulsi are shaking up the ” old boy” Democratic Party. About time!
Is Kate a member of the cult?
Judith: but they make such wonderful promises. and they make me happy. that means Bernie definitely would be the perfect leader of the free world for the next 4 years. Bernie would get on just Swimmingly with Russia and Putin.
Putin would literally drool himself to death if Bernie became president, which isn’t gonna happen. no, this is not the worst election in American history ever. four years from now, we will have another bitchfest. and another. and another. and another….. strangely enough, politics can get very political. next thing you know, brothers and sisters might argue with each other.
Sounds like a lobbyist/PR pro/political op.
How inspirational.
Any cult connex?
It’s about time Gabbard paid some attention to constituent services. While she was my Council member, she never responded to emails I sent, although I identified myself as her constituent. (Some other Council members, who did not represent my district, did respond!) Unfortunately, Tulsi has largely been focused on Tulsi. The growing link between her and Bernie is one of my deepest reservations about Bernie. Heaven help us (and him) if he becomes the candidate and chooses her as a running mate!
I wouldn’t worry about Tulsi being Sanders’ running mate. It doesn’t even take an exhaustive vetting process to discover the connections between the Gabbard family and the Chris Butler cult. She would make a good campaign surrogate, but I think Sanders’ braintrust is smart enough not to offer her any advising/policy role that would undermine Bernie’s standing with progressives.
Barbara: I’m a fan of Tulsi’s specifically because she was so effective when she was on the City Council. Her staff had good follow-up, and things just got done. As a neighborhood board member, I saw her team handle a significant number of community requests, and I was very impressed with their professionalism and how engaged she was personally.
The only thing Tulsi can hang her hat on while on City Council was to get the food trucks free parking on city streets…
I agree with “N” as far as responsiveness goes. Unlike many past and present representatives are concerned, she did show up at neighborhood board meetings and did take action to support community concerns.
Sad that appointment of a new Maui field rep is enough to cause some to spew religiously bigoted and Hindu-phobic remarks.
Kate sounds like she is going to be a great addition to Tulsi’s team!
