A taste of competition

Lots of people have been wondering what Amazon’s purchase of Whole Foods is going to mean for consumers.

An email from Whole Foods arrived in my inboxed on Thursday morning about 10 a.m. offer a “Labor Day Deal” of boneless sirloin steaks for $5.99 per pound.

Two and a half hours later, at 12:28 p.m., Costco replied, also via email:

Starts Today! Exclusive Member-Only Savings including New York Steaks for $6.99 per lb. at Your Local Costco!

Now, maybe these specials had been in the works for months to fall on Labor Day weekend. But the certainly have the flavor of sharpening competition.

Just an observation….
