“Under attack” but is anyone paying attention?

It just keeps getting crazier and scarier each day.

Yesterday’s news was extraordinary.

“Frankly, the United States is under attack,” and our system of elections are at risk,Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats said in sworn testimony.

But this news is in danger of being swept away as new blockbuster stories appear.

Today we read that the chief of staff to the director of Veterans Affairs “doctored an email and made false statements to create a pretext for taxpayers to cover expenses for the secretary’s wife on a 10-day trip to Europe last summer,” according to the agency’s inspector general.

FBI Director Christopher A. Wray publicly contradicted the White House narrative about former staff secretary Rob Porter. The White House said Porter had remained in his job while a security clearance investigation was continuing. Wray said the FBI had completed is report on Porter last July.

The drumbeat goes on and on. No longer a drip, drip, drip of news. It’s more like a huge swell hitting the north shore.

In any case, you might want to check out some of the primary sources.

Video of the Senate Intelligence Committee hearings are available on demand. Yesterday’s hearing is already available for viewing.

You can read the “Worldwide Threat Assessment of the U.S. Intelligence Community” prepared for the hearing.

And the report of the VA’s Inspector General can be found here.

It’s getting harder just keeping up with the top news of the day.
