We’re far too accustomed to businesses offering discounts to military personnel.
This Portland business offers discounts closer to home, in its own community.
How about discounts for underpaid teachers? Unemployed? Aren’t they as deserving as military personnel, who are mostly just passing through our state?

This should get many comments, for and against.
I always thought that the military discount was an insult to the rest of us. But a senior discount is most helpful.
Military discounts are, in general, total bullshit. One example: Ernie Martin’s recently passed city council bill to lower property taxes for military homeowners. Your BAH is more than some (most?) locals clear in a month, but you still need a handout? Its a joke.
Military people may be just passing through our state, but they are putting their lives on the line. I have a relative who got shot in combat, taken prisoner, and later liberated, but with a degree of paralysis. I would not view giving him a discount as, in commenter Patty’s words, “an insult to the rest of us.” And I say this as a conscientious objector during the Vietnam War.
Lives on the line for what? American imperialism?
An interesting link asking if military families live below the poverty line.
