You shouldn’t miss this excellent story from the New York Times, “The True Story Behind an Iconic Vietnam War Photo Was Nearly Erased — Until Now.”
As an occasional photographer, a reporter who has done my share of investigative stories, a history fan, and one who graduated from college amidst the turmoil of the Vietnam years, this story grabbed my attention from beginning to end. It traces an iconic photo from the Vietnam War, and attempts to unravel lingering questions about the identify of the wounded Marine at its center.
I can’t provide a short description that does it justice. I would just encourage you give it a try.
