Five years ago, Mike Miske allegedly masterminded the kidnapping and murder of his son’s best friend

It’s been five years since 21-year old Jonathan Fraser suddenly disappeared. The FBI says he was last seen, and is believed to have been kidnapped and killed, on July 30, 2016. His family says he disappeared on July 29. The reason for this apparent discrepancy isn’t clear.

At the time of his disappearance, Fraser and his girlfriend were sharing a Hawaii Kai apartment with Delia Ann Miske, who had been married to Caleb Miske, the only child of Honolulu businessman Michael Miske, owner Kamaaina Termite and Pest Control, M Nightclub, and several other companies.

Caleb died in March 2016 of complications from injuries received when his black 1993 Honda Civic 2-door sedan collided at high speed with a Ford pickup truck outside of Windward City Shopping Center four months earlier. Fraser, who was a passenger in the car, was critically injured but survived.

Mike Miske blamed Fraser for Caleb’s death, based on a mistaken insistence Fraser had been driving at the time of the accident. However, available records of first responders show Caleb Miske was in the driver’s seat when the accident happened.

Mike Miske was charged last year with plotting and funding Fraser’s murder.

Miske “agreed with others to pay cash…in exchange for the murder of Jonathan Fraser,” prosecutors have alleged in court documents.

In retrospect, Fraser’s apparent kidnapping and murder was a costly mistake, as it reinvigorated an already ongoing federal investigation that had stalled, which eventually led to Miske’s arrest and prosecution along with 10 alleged associates. It was a mistake that has taken down the organization prosecutors call the Miske Enterprise.

Among the 17 federal charges Miske now faces are four that stem from Fraser’s disappearance.

Murder in Aid of Racketeering (Mandatory minimumm sentence of life in prison or death)

Conspiracy to Commit Murder in Aid of Racketeering (Maximum sentence 10 years in prison)

Murder-for-Hire Conspiracy Resulting in Death (Mandatory minimum of life in prison or death)

Kidnapping Using a Facility of Interstate Commerce Resulting in Death (Life in prison or death)

The full story of Fraser’s demise is not known, but fragments have appeared in different documents filed in the federal case against Miske and ten associates.

Norman Akau, one of Miske’s co-defendants, has pleaded guilty and admitted he was offered $50,000 to take part in Fraser’s kidnapping. According to prosecutors, Akau was offered $50,000 to abduct Fraser and drive him to the north shore, then turn him over to another person.

Akau said he turned down the offer because Fraser was just “a kid.”

Akau said the offer was made through another Miske associate, Wayne Miller.

In a plea agreement with prosecutors in December 2020, Miller admitted he and others “agreed to assist Miske with carrying out the kidnapping and murder of Jonathan Fraser,” although Miller said he had hoped Miske would eventually drop the idea.

Miller said he did not participate in the murder, “but he assisted in other ways, including by helping Miske with planning and by purchasing items that Miske intended to use to carry out the kidnapping and murder.

According to prosecutors, “Miske directed an Enterprise member to obtain a vehicle for the purpose of transporting Fraser after he was abducted. The Enterprise member did no, ultimately purchasing an white Toyota Sienna van cia Craigslist.”

Miske also paid $425,000 for a 37-1/2 foot Boston Whaler model 370 Outrage, which was then named “Painkiller.” Prosecutors allege Miske directed the boat’s GPS be disconnected so that “Painkiller” could be used to dispose of Fraser’s body.

According to an FBI news release, “Fraser was last seen on July 30, 2016, at his Hawaii Kai apartment located at 6233 Keokea Place….” He was reported missing the following day.

Not long before he disappeared, Fraser told a relative he and his girlfriend had moved to Hawaii Kai and were sharing an apartment with Delia-Ann Fabro, Caleb Miske’s widow. The two couples had shared a Waipahu apartment a couple of years previously, and had all been friends.

The Hawaii Kai apartment was being paid for by Mike Miske, Fraser said at the time. But, he explained, “I’m not supposed to tell anyone.”.

The two bedrooom ground floor apartment is part of an 8-unit condominium project originally developed by NMF Keokea LLC, made up of National Mortgage and Finance Company, Limited, a locally owned real estate firm, and Terence and Evelyn O’Toole.

It was sold in February 2015 to Menehune Investments LLC for $5.3 million. State business registration records list the members of Menehune Investments as Steven and Marilyn Katzman, along with San Francisco attorney George T Argyris.

Mike Miske, a longtime girlfriend, and Delia-Ann Fabro were living in the building in 2017, according to others who lived in the building at the time. It is not known whether the senior Miske lived in the building at the time of Fraser’s disappearance.

Prosecutors allege Miske arranged for another person “to lure Fraser’s pregnant girlfriend away from Fraser on the day of his disappearance” with the offer of a “spa day.” He was last seen at the Keokea Place apartment that morning.

Late on the day Fraser disappeared, one of Miske’s co-defendants, Lance Bermudez, and another associate drove the van used in the kidnapping “from Hawaii Kai to the west side of Oahu, parked it under a bridge overpass, lit it on fire and left the scene,” prosecutors allege.

“Cell site data from July 30, 2016 established that Bermudez was on the east side of Oahu that evening,” according to prosecutor’s stateents in court documents. “Cell site data further showed Bermudez then traveled to west Oahu where he had set the van on fire. Honolulu police later found the van, engulfed in flames, in that same general location.”

Fraser’s car, a 1994 grey, two-door Honda hatchback, was found a week later near the intersection of Summer Street and Kuliouou Road.

In August 2017, federal agents seized the Boston Whaler “Painkiller” and sent over 100 items for detailed forensic analysis.

Eight people associated with Miske’s criminal organization, including two of his co-defendants and others charged separately, have pleaded guilty and are cooperating with prosecutors.

The account by the guy that Miske ‘s crew tried to shoot said Miske’s son Caleb was driving over 90 mph to flee his father or his goons because of a love triangle when he crashed . The accident report and the other vehicle involved may reveal why Caleb was driving over 90mph near the school crossing zone by Kaneohe Drive and Makalani St. Mike Miske had a previous high speed car car chase through Kalihi of the St. Louis boy.

No, Caleb was not being chased. He had just bought a “new” used car two days before, a 1993 Honda Civic. He had been hanging out at the shopping center, and then he and Johnny decided to take the car for a run and “see what it could do.”
