Check these prices from about 50 years ago

I’m having fun digging back through previously scanned vintage photos, which are now much easier to improve through digital processing.

Here’s a stand-alone photo, a menu board in a shop in or near Eugene, Oregon, somewhere around 1977 (give or take several years).

Hard to believe the prices!

Thanks. Can you explain what is the difference between soft drinks and soda that the price points are so different? Is this an Oregon thing?

This photo resonates in more than one way. Around that same time I have fond memories of saving my lunch money, and stopping at 7-11 on the way home from school for a 25 cent box of Kraft Macaroni & Cheese. It is 12x that now unless you buy it on sale. I don’t eat it anymore because with age comes low-sodium diets. I would be over 150 years old if I was 12x the age I was then.

The fallout shelter sign also brings back memories. Not so good ones of hiding under my desk at school, like that was going to help. Do they still have those? I haven’t noticed any signs but maybe they just blend into the background now. We had to worry about nuclear war, and kids today have to worry about being shot at in school. Why do humans always feel the need to terrify the children?

Yami Yogurt! We still have fallout shelters – the state parking lot where I park is one. Not sure how that would work as it’s open air on mauka and makai sides.
