Monday…Come on, kick the ball…a classic planted story, and more

Why am I getting that feeling of Lucy holding the football and promising not to whip it out of the way at the last minute?

Perhaps it’s President Bush’s latest “wait until the final report in September” whining.

On its face, it doesn’t sound unreasonable. Except we went throught this same thing before when the search was on for those weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. With each progress report, really each “no progress finding anything” report, Bush would say that it wasn’t really the last word and just wait for the final report. Eventually the final report was made and what happened? The Prez just ignored it anyway.

So wait until September? Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice…heck, the Prez never could get this one right.

How hard is it to “plant” a story?

A friend at the Star-Bulletin says it’s all a matter of timing, and points to what is really a classic of the genre that appeared several months ago in the Advertiser as breaking news. Really, it’s a good one.

As far as being able to plant a story goes, its pretty easy if you file a breaking new tip at the right hour. In this case, very early in the AM.

I love the part about the successful test flight of the OTC-X1 travelling at to the moon at near light speed.

I still trot this one out when we need a good laugh. I’m still surprised it hasnt been pulled down, I bet it will if it makes the blog.

Here’s another story I haven’t seen run elsewhere. It’s an unusual crime tale that appeared in the Toronto Star, but datelined Washington. Should I be doubting its veracity?

I should probably save these next two items for Feline Friday, but why wait? The first features a photo of an unusual encounter between a kitten and a beautiful big green lizard. Such interactions often don’t end well for the lizard, but this one was different. I wish our cats had gotten a lesson like this at an early age.

Crazy

Then there was this item sighted last night, the “Crazy Cat Lady Action Figure”.

If I counted correctly, she actually is displayed with fewer than nine cats.

Oh, oh! Should we worry?

Great… most of my comment got cut off…

Anywho, I’m not sure what you’re doubting… whether the AP story is actually an AP story, or if the tale that was told actually happened..

I googled “by an attempted robbery that began” and got a stack of on-line news sources that ran the story.

As for the calming effects of wine, I keep wine at all times, so I should be safe if an intruder ever happens to walk in on me. Not sure if the cheese is a critical part of the process, however.
