Tuesday…Lingle gets special mention, Young Democrats fundraiser, take an Obama trip but hope your plane doesn’t run out of fuel, and recycling cat fur

I notice that Gov. Lingle’s defense of Sarah Palin’s experience as mayor of Wasilla earned the nod from one blog as “the dumbest thing I heard at the Republican convention“.

Young Democrats of Hawaii are holding their own Get Out the Vote fundraiser today. It’s scheduled for 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Hukilau Restaurant in Executive Center (1088 Bishop Street). Tickets are $20.

And if you’re looking for a more active role in this presidential election, check this new web site, ObamaTravel.org, which hopes to channel campaign volunteers to swing states.

If you haven’t worried about your plane running out of gas on the way to Hawaii, you’ve got to read Larry Geller’s description at DisappearedNews.com of a recent incident in which an American Airlines flight turned back after calculating that it might not complete the whole fight.

And you might also want to take a look at this account from the Hawaii Superferry unofficial blog of recent violations involving attempts to bring back prohibited items from Maui on the Superferry, including opihi, fish, coral, etc. Inspections have turned up hundreds of violations, but funding for inspections runs out at the end of this year.

DukeNo, I didn’t pull out a bunch of my hair. This handful was the result of one session brushing Mr. Duke, who is quite a prolific shedder of cat fur. It got me wondering whether there’s any way to weave accumulated fur into something useful. It seems other have asked the same question.

One source comments:

My research has shown me that those who regularly weave using domesticated animals’ clipped wool and hair (sheep, goats, llama, alpaca) have also on occasion experimented with spinning and weaving shed wolf hybrid and longhaired cat fur. By shed, we mean brushed-out undercoat fur that has been collected over a period of time. Cat fur (properly termed hair) is generally far too slick and short for spinning and weaving on its own. Those who use brushed-out feline hair generally mix it with a fine wool.

Another web site describes turning cat fur into a soft felt hat.

And one company, VIP Fibers, offers to turn your pet’s fur into yard for you.

With nine cats wandering our house, it’s easy to find deposits of cat fur under furniture, stuck under chair legs…just about everywhere. Hmmmm.
