The San Jose Mercury News gets my vote for the understatement of the day, in a story on a series of raids in San Franisco and Sacramento that have resulted in the arrests of Leland Yee, a State Senator and candidate for California Secretary of state, and alleged gangster Raymond “Shrimp Boy” Chow.
Yee was photographed in the back seat of a police car as he was brought to federal court today.
Yee’s indictment likely ruins his candidacy for Secretary of State…
I like the qualifier, “likely”, that was dropped into the sentence, just in case.
This is the second high-profile prosecution of a California state senator in recent months. Sen. Ron Calderon was indicted in February on a variety of bribery and corruption charges. Both, unfortunately from my point of view, are Democrats.
And, according to the Sacramento Bee:
Yee has carried a wide variety of legislation during his career and is best known for his measures dealing with violence in video games and his advocacy for open records.
Corruption, is appears, appears on the left and right, it seems.
In any case, it’s going to be instructive to see these corrupt networks exposed, providing examples of how power becomes corrupted, and perhaps suggesting indicators to watch for.

holy catfish! You didn’t tell the good stuff: “…soliciting campaign contributions in exchange for setting up a deal with international arms dealers.”?! Soliciting? Where does it end? How do we get back a gov’t operating for the public good?
It appears that the good senator is a UH grad who was previously arrested in Hawaii for a considerably lesser offense, and had been stopped for cruising hookers SF.
It does seem likely that he is now toast.
