I’m taking a shortcut this morning, and reposing part of what I wrote last year on Mother’s Day.
Two mother photos for the day.
The first photo, dating from about 1949, shows my mother, Helen Lind, and me in the back yard of our family home in old Kahala. Between us is the little jack-in-a-box that played “pop goes the weasel” when you turned the crank, and then, out it would pop, causing lots of laughter even if the surprise was long gone. That toy must have been around for a while, because I still have memories of it. Perhaps the pictures helped foster the memories?
The second photo, below, is baby Meda with her mother, Margaret Renton Chesney, in 1947, sometime after the tornado that devastated the little town of Woodward, Oklahoma, where the family lived at the time.
If your mother is still alive, celebrate while you can!
One network’s news reports on yesterday’s tornadoes featured their reporter on the ground in Woodward.
Some things don’t change.
