Ten years ago in Denver

Thanks to Big Island reporter Nancy Cook Lauer for posting this photo on Facebook with a reminder that the Democratic National Convention where Barrack Obama emerged as the party’s presidential candidate was underway at this time a decade ago. Truth be told, in some ways it feels more like a lifetime ago.

Lauer was there. The photo proves it. In the photo, she is front and center. And I’m the guy just behind her, on the left of the photo, sitting in front in a white shirt.

I attended the convention as the official state blogger from Hawaii, part of the 55-member “State Blogger Corps.”

According to the Denver Post:

The “State Blogger Corps” includes one blogger from each state plus the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, and one blogger representing Democrats abroad.

Party officials say the list, announced today, includes some full-time professional bloggers and some part-timers and volunteers.

They were chosen from among more than 400 applications.

On August 26, 2008, I posted a batch of photos taken the previous evening during the first night of the convention.

Here are other batches of photos posted at the time.

Some photos taken on streets of Denver outside of the convention.

Then there were a couple of batches from the convention finale (afternoon and into the evening).

And if you are interested in little historical tidbits, you can track back through the posts I wrote during the week of the convention in Denver, here in reverse chronological order.

  1. Bill

Very memorable times for Democrats and everyone else for that matter.

I know Obama’s favorability declined over time for conservatives. But at the time, only the real hard cores on the right were not happy with Obama becoming president.
