Alleged gang leader’s termite treatment company still advertising

I was a bit surprised to see this arrive in the mail earlier in the week along with the current issue of MidWeek.

It’s an advertising mailer for Oahu Termite & Pest Control.

Like Kamaaina Termite & Pest Control, the company is owned by Mike Miske. Yes, the same Mike Miske that’s currently being held in the federal detention center in Honolulu facing a slew of charges for allegedly being at the center of a criminal gang engaged in everything from tax fraud to extortion, drug dealing, and murder.

Miske reached an agreement to buy the assets of Oahu Termite in December 2016, and continued to operate under Miske’s ownership. He even filed a successful lawsuit suit to enforce the terms of the purchase agreement reached at that time.

Is Oahu Termite currently in business? Kamaaina Termite?

One reader left a comment here following the Miske indictments.

We had our house termite-tented in 2017 by Kama`aina Termite. Five year warranty. We also signed up for installation of ground termite “traps” for a reasonable price that included inspection of the traps every six months and replacement of the traps as appropriate for five years.

The regular inspection should have happened last month, and I have been calling and emailing the company every few days for the past several week to see where we stand. Busy signal – no response. Nevertheless, the company continues to advertise – note their solicitations on the two most recent mail-label cards that accompany the weekly delivery of MidWeek.

Anyone else similarly situated or know how to pursue – at least for information?

There are likely a lot of customers wondering what happens next.

Please share if you’ve got any information.

I was told by an employee that “Kamaaina Termite is closed until further notice”. Their doors and windows are boarded up on Queen St. They usually service my home monthly and charge my account after servicing. I already made arrangements with someone else.

Kamaaina has a statement on Yelp. Oahu termite does not. Drove by Oahu termite near the Aiea Buzz’s Steakhouse shortly after the news broke. No equipment outside, door damaged and it looked abandoned.

I did not buy their ground treatment service but did pay a substantial amount for House Fumigation/Tenting last year.
Those of us who did have lost the 5 year warranty with no recourse that I am aware.

Also, beware of Orange Treatment which is a product which does not work!
