Here are a few of the public meetings taking place this week.

But what does it mean?! This year saw many big changes in the media landscape in Honolulu. We saw the birth of HuffPost Hawaii, the demise of Honolulu Weekly, and the domination of the dreaded listicle. So what does this mean for the media industry and those who care about it?
The Offsetter and Interisland Terminal seek to answer this and many other questions in DEADLINE, a film and panel series that will look at the elements facing journalism today, starring many of your favorite Honolulu journalists, editors, publishers, and news junkies!
Film in the series: “Good Night, and Good Luck”, starring George Clooney and David Strathairn, about Edward R. Murrow’s public quest against Joseph McCarthy; the recent documentary about the New York Times plagiarist and liar Jayson Blair, “A Fragile Trust”; and the classic Redford/Hoffman dream team in “All The President’s Men”.
We’re also printing a collection of essays by Elizabeth Kiezkowski of the Star Advertiser, Ke‘?p?laulani Reelitz of Mana Magazine, Jason Ubay of Hawaii Business, James Cave of the Offsetter, Gene Park of Civil Beat, Burt Lum of HPR, Ikaika Hussey of the Hawaii Independent, Jared Kuroiwa of KHON, and Jackie Perreira of Ka Leo.

The HCDA meeting agenda you linked is only one piece of what is going on that day at 461 Cooke Street.
It is decision day when the HCDA will likely approve the development permit for the 803 Waimano Project.
The Kakaako agenda includes a request by the agency staff to develop a public cultural marketplace on the makai lands ($2.3M funding request).
Also a decision to spend $600K on leasing and management contracts for Kewalo Basin Park and several other smaller issues is up for vote.
It’s important to look at all the agendas. The one for the regular meeting of the Authority is bland; meanwhile, the future of the Kakaako makai lands is being bartered. Later, people will wonder, “when did that happen?”.

The Honolulu Ethics Commission is scheduled to meet at 11:30 a.m. January 6. They are continuing their discussions with the administration regarding release of requested information, budget for the commission and COR’s role in ethics matters.
